Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid defeats Xerez

MADRID, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid crushed local league rival Xerez 5-0 on Sunday, scoring four goals in the last 15 minutes of the match, even though the team showed some lack of cohesion.

Madrid's president Florentino Perez has signed several multi-million-euro contracts with strikers, who are not used to working together, but when it comes through their force seems unstoppable.

For most of the game, Real Madrid appeared unstructured and visiting Xerez never backed down. The final result is not a fair reflection of the visitors game, who never appeared rattled by the powerful capital city team, even though Cristiano Ronaldo scored during the first minute of the match.

Madrid's second goal, also from Ronaldo, was another 74 minutes in coming, and the rain of goals that followed -- Guti in minute 77, Benzema in minute 81 and Van Nistelroy in minute 88 -- appeared when the visitors were showing signs of wear from fierce work. Van Nistelroy scored for the first time after a year absent from professional soccer due to injury.

The game means Madrid leads the Spanish league, with the same number of points as archrival Barcelona, but one notch ahead in terms of goal difference. Even so, Madrid will need time to build a dream team from its current crop of talented individuals.
