MADRID, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Primera Liga outfit Sevilla began its Champions League campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Romanian side Unirea Urziceni.
Goals either side of half time from Luis Fabiano and attacking midfielder Renato a well deserved triumph over a side that was content to try and soak up pressure for long periods of the game.
Sevilla kicked off with their confidence sky high following a 4-1 win over Zaragoza in the Spanish Primera Liga at the weekend.
Coach Manolo Jimenez brought Freddy Kanoute back into his starting 11 with Alvaro Negredo stepping down to the bench.
The Romanian team started brightly, but without creating clear cut chances and after 20 minutes Sevilla began to take control with Diego Capel causing problems down the left wing and Jesus Navas down the right.
However, the first goal didn't arrive until the last minute of the half. The in form Luis Fabiano accepted a pass from Renato and fired a left foot shot home from the edge of the penalty area.
The second half saw little change and although Perotti replaced Capel ten minutes into the half, Sevilla's attacking scheme was unchanged.
Negredo also made his European debut after 63 minutes and seven minutes later his side doubled its advantage.
Luis Fabiano was again involved and although his header didn't hit the target, Renato was on hard to make the game safe.
It could have been even a bigger win, but Luis Fabiano's left foot shot in the closing minutes bounced clear after rattling the post.
