RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo's star striker, Adriano, revealed on Wednesday that he plans on extending his contract with the club from Rio de Janeiro.
Returning to a high level of play and scoring on multiple occasions, Adriano hopes to stay with the team and better his chances of being named to the Brazilian 2010 World Cup team.
Adriano's head coach at Flamengo, Andrade, recently declared that the player's participation on the Brazilian national team has not only helped to boost the athlete's self-esteem, but has also led to an increase in his productivity on the field. Just last week, Adriano scored two goals for Flamengo in his return to the team after his performance with the national team.
The recent climb in Adriano's game while at Flamengo has driven the player to want to prolong his contract and stay with the team. Despite multiple offers that equate to much more than what he is currently being paid at Flamengo, Adriano revealed that his true desire is to remain with the team from which he was first revealed to the soccer world.
"I may stay until the end of my career. Who knows? I would like to participate in at least one Libertadores Cup with Flamengo. It is something that I have never had the chance to do. However, everything will depend on how the team performs. In relation to other proposals I have received, there is no point in leaving. At Flamengo, I feel comfortable and at home," declared Adriano.
Adriano has scored a team-high 12 goals during this year's Brazilian Championship. His strong performance has attracted the attention of the international press as well as teams throughout the globe. Adriano's current contract with Flamengo extends till May of 2010.
