MADRID, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona handed out a 5-2 punishment to Atletico Madrid in the Camp Nou Stadium to remain top of the Primera Liga on Saturday night.

Leo Messi celebrated his new contract with the club with two goals and a pass that set up Seydou Keita for the fourth goal.

Zlatan Ibrahimovich opened the scoring for Barcelona after just two minutes. The big Swede scored his third goal in three games following a pass from Sergio Busquets.

Messi made it 2-0 after 15 minutes before Dani Alves scored a direct free kick just before the half hour.

Keita made it 4-0 after brilliant work from Messi on the left, four minutes from half time and although Kun Aguero scored for Atletico following a Busquets error in the 45th minute, the game looked to be in Barcelona's control.

Both sides appeared to accept the result and the game lost its edge in the second period. However, Diego Forlan pulled a second goal back for Atletico with five minutes left and the fans in the Camp Nou became nervous.

But Messi added a fifth for Barcelona in the last minute after a neat assist from Alves.

The day began with Espanyol winning 3-2 away to Deportivo Coruna to chalk up its first points of the season.

The visitors opened the scoring after 19 minutes through Jose Callejon and although Adrian Lopez levelled after 27 minutes, but Espanyol was back in front before the break thanks to new signing Joan Forlin.

Former Deportivo player Joan Verdu made it 3-1 in the second half, before Lassad Nouioui gave the home team some hope with 15 minutes remaining.

Meanwhile Mallorca's excellent start to the campaign continued with a 4-0 thrashing of newly promoted Tenerife.

Mauro Suarez, Aritz Aduriz, Julio Alvarez and Webo scored Mallorca's goals in a comfortable win, while the visitors had defenders Marc Beltran and Luna both sent off in the last 15 minutes of the match.

Elsewhere, Sevilla ended a good week with a 2-0 win away to Osasuna.Alvaro Negredo's first goal for his new club and a second half strike from Freddy Kanoute were enough to give Manolo Jimenez's side its third win in seven days.

Finally Racing Santander pulled off a shock to win 2-1 in Malaga. Manuel Arana and Nasief Morris were the heroes for Racing.
